United Nations General Assembly 1:
Disarmament and International Security Committee
Sidharth Pramod
Chair
It is my immense pleasure to welcome you all to the First Committee of the General Assembly: the Disarmament and International Security Committee at WSOMUN 2018! My name Is Sidharth pramod and I will be serving as the chair. In this committee, we will explore some of the convoluted issues that have impacted global security and military politics for decades. So that we may best work together in conference, however, let me first tell you a little more about myself.
I currently study in gems our own Indian school. I have participated in various MUN’s throughout middle school and high school. I also enjoy reading about finance and exploring the crazy world of stocks and bonds and love rap music, thus my role models are Leonardo dicaprio in wolf of Wall Street and kanye west. With regards to WSOMUN 2018, I would like to emphasize the educational goals of this conference. I hope each of us will leave the conference with a stronger understanding of the plurality of opinions on how to best distribute military aid (if at all) and the most effective tactics to curb terrorist threats. The opportunity provided in such a committee of further refining your debate skills, in addition to the fun nature of DISEC, will make this a committee to remember thus I Sidharth pramod is very proud to hold the position of chair. Go big or go home. |
Greetings Delegates! It is my utmost pleasure to serve as the Co-chair of the Disarmament and International Security Committee at WSOMUN 2018. I am a grade 11 student in the ISC curriculum in GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai and I have been a avid Model United Nations Delegate since Grade 7. I do not consider MUN to be just a platform to present ideas and debate, but to look at the world in an objective manner and present new ideas to the committee through collaboration and diplomacy. As a chair, I expect delegates to be interactive and competitive. Be confident and remain composed! Lastly, I would like to thank The Secretary General and The President of The General Assembly of WSOMUN for giving me this opportunity.

I’m Siddharth Nair, currently a senior at the Indian High School. Debating has always been a big part of my life and I believe that MUN’s are the preponderantly perfect platforms for the youth to voice their opinions, in a drive to change the ill-struck contemporary world. I have multiple chairing and delegate experiences in committees ranging from the Security Council to the Historic Committee. It is with unbound joy and unprecedented excitement that I welcome you to the DISEC. It’s my guarantee that over the course of this conference that you will undoubtedly experience a committee, replete with debate and deliberation and hence, empower yourself with the aptitude to tackle international issues, while successfully sustaining a diplomatic atmosphere. I also assure you that if you bring to the table: unparalleled research, heated debates, innovative resolutions, diplomatic discussions, you will take back a trove of knowledge and most importantly, an invaluable, fun-filled and memorable experience from the WSOMUN 2018. I can't wait to meet all of you at the conference.

United Nations Security Council
Ishan Raj
Chair
Having been a part of 10 MUN conferences I have gained an appreciation of the values that MUN espouses and I can safely say that WSOMUN embodies all these values.WSOMUN will be a forum for ideas and discussion of solutions for real problems that affect countries, and people, around the world. We hope to allow delegates the opportunity to gain the skills of diplomacy and compromise. Delegates will engage with other delegates from diverse backgrounds who harbor different opinions that delegates will have to learn to amalgamate into their own ideas when brainstorming for resolutions for the various issues they will be debating on. One of our aims is to give delegates a unique understanding of the complexity of human nature as they research upon the topics they have been assigned and consider the reasons of disagreements for different nations on how to approach the issues these nations may face and create viable solutions. With that being said I wish all delegates the best for WSOMUN 2018

Greetings delegates! I am Saamish, Chair of UN Human Rights Council for this session of WSOMUN. Currently I am Year 12 student in The Winchester School, Jebal Ali concentrating in the sciences.
Being the third time that I am a member of the executive committee, and paired with two experienced co-chairs, you can be at ease as you are in good hands. I do look forward to meeting each and every one of you once committee begins and cannot wait to spend the time we will in the exquisite committee that is the Human Rights Council. Good luck with your preparations, and do not hesitate to contact either me, or the co-chairs for any help required. |
Greetings to all, participating in an event which so unique can be intimidating, ‘What if I make a fool of myself?’, ‘What if they dislike me?’, ‘What if I don’t know what to do and create an embarrassing situation?’. Questions similar to these raced across my mind when I was applying to my first MUN. Thus, I congratulate every delegate who has decided to leave their comfort zone. With several MUNs under my belt, I can say I have left a little richer, with a little more confidence and a little wiser and without doubt, the WSOMUN will be no different. With great pride, I can say I am the co-chair of the UNHRC, a committee I have Chaired before, a committee that has selfless goals, a committee that works for the better of the humankind. To end with, this MUN is one I am confident will leave a lasting mark on every person participating and I am delighted to be one of those people.

My hobbies range from listening to audio books to participating in many sports , I personally do martial arts and have been doing so for around 3 years now. All delegates have my support and I hope for a great conference for everyone.

United Nations Commission on the Status of Women
Zaina Awan
Chair
Around the world, conversations about the marginalization of women only continue to become more and more difficult. Therefore, this committee holds a crucial position in the UN body as it provides member states the ability to discuss about issues that women are victimized to and come up with solutions that aid in the process of advancement. One of the topics to be discussed are associated with the subject for my seminal research paper, so I’m excited to chair the committee to witness the arguments and policies that are introduced within the session!

Participating in MUN means taking initiative to learn about the problems and suffering many other countries have to go through, and collaborate to formulate solution to them through your resolution papers. As the youth generation, it is up to us to decide what kind of future we want to set for ourselves, "be the change they want to see in the world”. I am honored to be the Co-Chair for UNICEF in this conference, we look forward to seeing all our efforts play out and hope all of you delegates are able to have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. I cannot wait to see all of your opinions and diplomatic strategies soon!

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee
Esha Sharma
Chair
I am privileged to serve as the Chair for UNHCR and I would like to extend my warmest regards to everyone taking part in the first WSOMUN conference. Presently, there are countless number of conflicts that the world faces today, and we require our youth to be proactive when combating these problems. As future leaders, it is crucial for us to develop the collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills required to engage in a conflict-ridden world. At WSOMUN I not only hope to facilitate the development of such skills but also hope to provide a platform where delegates are able to embark on their journey of personal growth. Most importantly, I hope that delegates are able to have fun in the process, develop new friendships and make memories that last a lifetime. With that said I would like to welcome all of you to WSOMUN 2018!
